Number and Algebra

The Award Ceremony

Key Stages 2 and 3

Age Range : 10+

Outline of the game

The Award Ceremony involves ordering numbers; highest to lowest or lowest to highest.

How to use the software

The Award Ceremony requires children to order a given set of random numbers. There are eleven options within the game. The first five deal with distances and times. The children therefore need to be aware that for distance events the largest number must go in position one on the scoreboard and for timed events the smallest number must be placed first. The remaining six options are concerned with ordering whole numbers up to differing sizes.

Having selected which option to play the scoreboard screen appears. To place a time/distance on the scoreboard players are required to click on the country’s flag and then select a position from the ‘POS’ column. If a player wishes to remove a country from the scoreboard they need to click twice in ‘POS’ column against the country’s name.

When a player has ordered all the countries times/distances they must press the ‘AWARD MEDALS’ button. If the scoreboard is correctly ordered the award ceremony will begin. If there is a mistake on the scoreboard the player will be notified of this via a ‘loudspeaker announcement’.

*As the game generates random times and distances there may be occasions when two or more countries have the same time/distance. If this occurs then the player must act as the final judge and decide which country gets the highest placing.
