Spreadsheets can assist with activities that require the same operations carried out over and over again.

Again and Again
This is an investigation involving fractions and decimals. Some knowledge of the equivalence of fractions and decimals is required.

If the same operations are carried out many times what is the final result?

Does it matter what the start number is?
Try dividing by 4 and adding 1, dividing by 6 and adding 1.
Change the number that is added..
dividing by 5 and adding 2.

Use the Again and Again activity

The Mean Series
Start with any two numbers
e.g. 3 and 5
The next term is the mean of the previous two terms
3, 5, 4, 4.5, 4.25 .....

Investigate the Mean Series; some knowledge of the equivalence of fractions and decimals is required.

If this activity is carried out using a spreadsheet then it's a good idea to tell the computer to draw a line graph showing the series.

Pupils have described the resulting graph as a heart rate monitor with a sad outcome!
